Pastoral Guidelines in times of typhoons and rainstorms

"Pastoral Guidelines in times of typhoons and rainstorms" by Catholic Diocese:

  5. If Typhoon Signal No. 8 (or above) or Black Rainstorm Warning is lowered two hours or more ahead of scheduled Sunday or weekday Masses, churches or Mass centres are to provide the usual eucharistic services. January 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

May you and your family in this New Year continued to be filled with grace and peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

Thank you for the love and support you have to given our Parish. This facilitates our many successful developments. There are still a lot of improvements to be made and the Parish need your continuous prayer, understanding and encouragement.

Last year, Hong Kong experienced the striking force of several typhoons. Water leakage caused the peeling off of the ceiling of the Church that required urgent repair. I am grateful to everyone for being patient and accommodating during the renovation period. The work completed successfully within one month. Furthermore, to provide a comfortable environment, the Confession Room, Ground Floor Lobby and the Store for Religious Articles had undergone refurbishment. In addition, the pews in the Church are in the process of being repaired.

Apart from the above-mentioned works, the most important is the investment we had made on programs for nurturing our faith and evangelization. Last year, the focus of the Diocese is Marriage, Family and Life. Our Parish together with “The Hong Kong Catholic Marriage Advisory Council”, “Diocese Marriage and Family Pastoral Commission” and “The Hong Kong Caritas Marriage Services” had organized a series of talks on the subject and I am happy to report that the participants found them beneficial. On youth programs, more than 10 young people went on a life-in-faith experience in Cambodia. The reflections on their experiences had already been published in our Parish Newsletter. Furthermore, the Parish has established a mobile library located in the Chapel, containing books on Spirituality, Bible and other religious periodicals in end of last year. In addition, “Sunday Tea Kiosk” was set up in the Covered Playground on Sunday mornings which will facilitate fellowship among parishioners. As to encourage our parishioners to further their faith development, our Parish has subsidized several of them to attend training at various institutes within the Diocese.

Looking forward to the New Year, to concur with the Diocese focus on youth, our Parish will increase outlay on training for our youth. We will organize talks and subsidize the youth awaiting confirmation to participate in the “Samuels camp” organized by the Diocese Youth Commission Hong Kong. We will also sponsor and encourage our youths to join the 2019 World Youth Day in Panama. Furthermore, our parish Youth Pastoral Group has plans to organize combined events with Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School.

There will be several large-scale renovations this year: To comply with regulations of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, a complete overhaul of the Church’s air-conditioning system; replace the existing sound system; the reconstruction of the outdoor big Cross which is our landmark and renovation of the Sacristy.

This year is the 45th Anniversary of Holy Redeemer Church. Our slogan is “This year Holy Redeemer Church will celebrate its 45th Anniversary. May the love of our Lord be with us always.” We are grateful to all parishioners for their input and participation in the daily life of the Church. May we always experience the love of God and be blessed by him.

We ardently hope that in the coming year, you will continue to support the Church spiritually and financially. On behalf of the Parish Pastoral Team and the Parish Pastoral Committee, I thank you for your continuous love and support for the Church.

“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.” 2 Thes 2:16-17
