Getting to know Father Paul Kam Po Wai

responsive screens

Fr. Paul Kam Po Wai joined us, the Holy Redeemer Church, on 1st June 2021, taking up the post of parish priest. Let’s get to know more about him!

Fr. Kam, who was born in a Catholic family, has been very much attached to church activities since he was young. As he grew up, he picked up his backpack and travelled all around the world. When Fr. Kam was studying theology in the Holy Spirit Seminary, he became a pen pal with a Seminarian in Ethiopia, who aroused his curiosity about Africa. Five years after his ordination to the priesthood (2003), the bishop accepted his application to go on a three-year mission to Tanzania and his missionary dream came true.

After returning from the missionary journey, Fr. Kam had participated in parish pastoral work for three years. In 2009, he was appointed chairperson of Diocese Youth Commission and spiritual director of Hong Kong Federation of Catholic Students. Since then, he devoted all his time to the development of youth ministry. In 2018, Fr. Kam answered another God’s call to mission and picked up the Cross of Missionary again. This time, Fr. Kam was sent to our neighbouring country Cambodia instead of the faraway Tanzania, where he worked previously. He is all along filled with missionary spirit. He said, “Answering the call, I was commissioned again. Likewise, I appeal to all of you to pray. Every person has the chance to be called by God and to be sent on mission.” Continuously responding to God’s call, Fr. Kam keeps reaching out to the world and evangelizing the word of God. In 2021, he was told to pick up his backpack once again to return to Hong Kong. Now, he joined our parish and became our parish priest. Let's give thanks to God.
