Pastoral Guidelines in times of typhoons and rainstorms

"Pastoral Guidelines in times of typhoons and rainstorms" by Catholic Diocese:

  1. When the Typhoon Signal No. 8 (or above) is hoisted or Black Rainstorm Warning is in force, the faithful, in accordance with the advice given to the general public, are to avoid outdoor activities and to stay indoors for their personal safety.
  2. As travelling from their houses to churches or Mass centres might be hazardous when the above-mentioned signals are hoisted, the faithful are not obliged to attend Sunday Mass under these circumstances. However, for their own spiritual benifit, they are stiil required to perform some works for piety, such as meditating on some Scripture passages (preferably those chosen for the Sunday liturgy) or saying the Rosary at home.
  3. Under the circumstances mentioned in No.1 above, churches and Mass centres are to be closed, and regularly scheduled Masses are to be cancelled. This applies to Sundays and weekdays.
  4. The faithful who go against the advice given in Nos. 1-2 above do so at their own risk. The diocesan authorities and the priests concerned shall not be responsible for any accidents or injuries which might accur.
  5. If Typhoon Signal No. 8 (or above) or Black Rainstorm Warning is lowered two hours or more ahead of scheduled Sunday or weekday Masses, churches or Mass centres are to provide the usual eucharistic services. However, priests are not requires to arrange for special/unscheduled Masses when these signals are lowered.

December 2020
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ:

May the joy and peace of Our Savior Jesus Christ be with you always!

2020 is a year laden with misgivings, doubts and confusions. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, public mass and meetings have been suspended time and again. Despite this disparaging situation, with the help of the brothers and sisters of our parish, we are able to arrange Live Webcast Mass every Sunday. Various Devotional Groups of our Parish have organized online Bible Sharing to maintain and enrich their spiritual growth. This is highly commendable. Indeed, the Pandemic situation has brought about unprecedented difficulties but at the same time it gives us all unique and exceptional opportunities to enhance our spiritual life.

On account of the Pandemic, our Parish have purchased ThermoScan, Hand Sanitizer, Disinfectant, Disinfectant Vaporizer, masks etc. to combat the transmission. This will ensure that all parishioners will enter the church under safe conditions and at the same time guaranteed the cleanliness of the church environment. I would like to thank all parishioners who participated in providing help and assistance during the reopening of the Public Mass. It has been well organized and created a “coming home” effect and “warm” feeling for all parishioners.

On the subject of renovating our old lift, the project has been taken up by the Diocese Construction and Development Committee. They will help with hiring a Consultancy Firm for a thorough study and hopefully this project will commence as soon as possible. As to the work on renovating the Air-conditioning System, invitation to tenders to bid for the work is already in progress. Our target is to ascertain the project will begin next year. Furthermore, we plan to renovate the Sound System to minimize the echoing effect and improve the sound quality.

The theme for the Parish in 2021 is “faith”. The Monthly Parish Retreat and a series of talks to be organized in the new year will be on the “Apostles’ Creed”. In this pandemic situation, we aspire to depend on the guidance of God to hold fast to our faith.

The Diocese Pastoral theme in 2021 is “parish renewal”. This will help us to reflect on how to efficiently put into practice our evangelical mission. Our daily lives should reflect our faith because the stronger our faith, the more effective we will be in carrying out our evangelical mission.

I have just been re-assigned by the Diocese to be the Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church at Sai Wan Ho effective January 15th 2021. Father Nicolas de Francqueville will commence as the Acting Parish Priest of Holy Redeemer Church on that day. Here I would like to thank all parishioners especially Parish Executive Committee members and the Parish Pastoral Team for their affections and their wholehearted help and cooperation during the past seven plus years. It is because of your vigor that contribute to the flourishing and development of our pastoral and evangelical work. I sincerely hope that under the guidance of the new Acting Parish Priest Father Nicolas, your faith, hope and love will deepen by the day and remain unchanged.

On behalf of the Parish Pastoral Team and the Parish Pastoral Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support, we do need your prayers. May God bless you and shower you with grace a hundredfold.

Emmanuel! God is with us always!
